Day Two of the big weekend and we await the promised heatwave with bated breath... testing has continued in earnest and the engineers report no significant problems... yet! But setting up the car for maximum performance is a time-consuming task that cannot be hurried. Improvements to the bodywork have been completed by designer Paul Sparrow who has worked all hours for weeks to provide a perfect finish. The new body has been developed for the attempt, it is 30% lighter, completely sealed against salt and sand with a new larger fin for greater aerodynamic stability. A new system for securing it to the chassis has also been introduced to improve access to the batteries, drivetrain, coolants, steering and suspension.
Media interest in the weekend is keen too and we expect to welcome most of the major TV news networks as well as regional TV radio and press reporters.
Meanwhile, Bluebird BE97/1 - the original model that broke the UK record two years ago - along with other vehicles from the Hawker EV Roadshow has left Pendine for London, where it is to be the star attraction at a unique environmental celebration.
Pendine, how to get there and where to stay.
