The Fire Support Team of BMW Rover UK are new addition to the project's support team. Their involvement is invaluable in the safety preparations for the coming trials and attempts. Their 6 wheel Land Rover Fire Tender carries an enviable array of fire and specialist accident rescue equipment. They have also provided additional safety support vehicles and fire extinguishers for our existing support crew. The Rover Fire Crew's help and professionalism us much appreciated and we are proud to welcome them onboard.
We must not forget the real heroes of the day though. Simon Garrett, Richard Eastop and Paul Sparrow. They are the team that make up Bluebird Technologies Ltd and together they have built the new car. Simon was responsible for the new chassis and Paul and Richard were both responsible for the new body work. Together they have reduced the weight of the car by about 30% of that of its predecessor. Also, the new car is more streamlined and aerodynamic and uses narrower tyres than the previous car and should bring us up to par with the Americans.
We would like to thank all of those that came to Pendine today to support. It was good to meet supporters that had come from all over the country to see the new car. I have to admit a shiver went up my spine when I saw it for the first time myself. I hope you will join me in wishing Don Wales the very best of luck and to congratulate the engineers on building a fine new car to put Bluebird back in the history books.
