News - 25th of October 1999
Don Wales and everyone in the Bluebird Electric Team would like to extend their congratulations to Pat Rummerfield and the White Lightning Team for setting a new electric landspeed record of 245.5mph at Bonneville on October 22nd.
Frustrated by a mixture of weather, beach conditions and technical frustrations, the team has decided to abandon its immediate attempts to run the car. Bluebird is now back in the workshops and will appear again as soon as the team feel able to do itself justice and post competitive times.
"With White Lightning doing so well this year, we have to make sure we are up there with them, and we simply aren't there yet" said a frustrated Martin Rees, the project's Director. "I know Don will want to get in the drivers seat again soon and show what progress we've made. Let's hope we can give him a competitive car very soon".
Meanwhile, the project is to settle into its new operational facility within the defence establishment site at DERA Pendine, giving the project a direct access to the beach as well as a settled engineering workshop facility for the development and operation of Bluebird.
A fuller account of the recent activity and a new schedule for tests and attempts will be posted shortly.
News - 19th of October 1999
Due to a forecast of high winds and rain, Bluebird Electric, has been forced to cancel its intended record attempt this weekend (23/24 October). We would like to wish good luck to White Lightning who will be running at Bonneville from the 20th. They seemed blessed with better conditions than us at the moment. We do plan to be back soon... This in the strictest of confidence... Between you and me, we are going to attempt to obtain permission to return to Pendine towards mid to end of November... Watch this space.
