Press release: Appearance of Bluebird Electric at Pendine (Update)

More info to follow soon.

For immediate release, 14th September 1998

BLUEBIRD RETURNS TO PENDINE!

A Bluebird flies again on Pendine - a new chapter of record-breaking for the land speed record centenary.

This weekend, 18th to 20th September, Bluebird Electric will be the latest in a long line of Bluebird landspeed record cars to attempt a record on Pendine Sands in South Wales.

Don Wales, the driver of Bluebird Electric and grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell, will attempt to increase the British Landspeed Record for Electric Cars. In May, at Elvington Airfield, the Bluebird Electric Landspeed Record Team managed to increase the old record by 10mph, establishing an average speed of 116.41mph on a runway of under 2 miles.

The original Bluebird, the 1924 Sunbeam in which Sir Malcolm Campbell achieved his first World Landspeed Record of 146mph, will make a special trip to the sands in support of the latest record attempt.

There will be a Press Office set up in the Pendine Museum of Speed for the entire weekend, with a Video Link from the beach. Regular reports will also be available from the team. A schedule of events for the weekend is attached, interviews to be arranged as required.

Press Release Ends.
