Donald Wales, the driver of the latest in a long line of Bluebird land speed record cars, said, "The car is here today thanks to the design work done by Chris. He deserves full credit for designing a record breaking car which evokes the remarkable heritage of Bluebird cars my grandfather and uncle drove. Myself and the whole team would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to Chris's family."
The Bluebird project manager, Martin Rees, added, "The electric Bluebird has a unique and distinctive shape which has become instantly recognisable. For that we have Chris to thank. It is a shame that he will not be with us to see Don and the team capture the international record for electric cars in a Bluebird."
Chris will be in the minds of the entire Bluebird team when they return to Pendine Sands, West Wales, next year to try again and break the international land speed record for electric cars which currently stands at 215mph.
